What if someone told you that you were noble? Not only did they say that you’re noble, but you are the most noble person they know! Would you believe them? Today I’m going to explore nobility, which is the subject broached in today’s verse:

‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’ Proverbs 31:29

Wow! What amazing praises the Proverbs 31 woman receives from her husband and children! It makes me feel a little inadequate to be quite honest. I mean, I do some nice things, but noble to the point of surpassing all other noble women? Now that’s a bit of a stretch.

So how can a regular woman like me, maybe like you, get anywhere close to noble? My thoughts are this; I think the noblest thing we can do as women is simply be devout followers of our King. He is, after all, the reason we can claim any sort of nobility. We can also lead others to God, guiding them towards salvation through Jesus.

I wondered too, how would I react if my husband and children were to sing these praises of me? I determined that I would first be gracious, since these praises came from their hearts. Then I would approach these praises with humility and humbleness, pointing ever upward in thanks, because it is only through God that any woman can become noble.

I think I would also point out the noble character of the other women in my life and let my family know that each person has something noble to bring to the throne room of God. To my readers, remember that you each are valuable and bring something unique and wonderful to His kingdom!

I think our husbands and children also need to see that we are only human, and that we, like them, are in need of a Savior. I may even say to them, “Noble?! Maybe, but not 24/7, that’s why I need Jesus!”

Application

I think if my husband and children see me at least trying my best everyday, then I will be somewhat worthy of the praises the P31 woman received. But I also want to praise them as well when they seek the Lord and let them know that I see nobility in them. I think I will start today by seeking out moments to praise them for being faithful to God.

May God reign in your life today,

~ Angela
